1k Projectspace-de Ekster is pleased to present a new body of work from Amsterdam based artist Camile Smeets. Chimaera will feature a ceramic installation of a girl, a dog and a Chimera. A chimera is a monster comprised of parts from different creatures, an imaginary being well known in folklore and myth.

Camile Smeets was born and raised in Amsterdam and comes from a family of artists. Her work is based on universal themes occurring in mythology and lore which she combines with her own personal narratives and experiences. She completed her studies in ceramics at the Gerrit Rietveld Akademie in Amsterdam earlier this year.

Ms. Smeets exhibition will open on Sunday December 13 to coincide with the Stadsdeel Westerpark Licht Zondag. The gallery will be open from 1200-1800 December 13, and the opening reception will be from 1600-1800.

Exhibition runs: December 13th, 2009 thru January 3, 2010
